Some parents are thinking about their child’s first home before the child starts kindergarten.
The Coldwell Banker 2026 American Dream Report, based on a Harris Poll survey, found that 82% of parents with children five or younger were saving—or had considered saving—for a future down payment.
But only 14% had actually started.
That distinction matters.
It’s an interesting sign of how early families are thinking about housing costs, even when the home purchase itself could be decades away.
